We have been getting a TON of questions, so we decided to start a series of Q&A videos to answer some of them! To keep things a bit more organized, we are going to cover one “category” per Q&A video.
As you may know, we started our “diet” one year ago with two weeks of nothing but plain potatoes, inspired by Penn Jillette. Since then, we have switched to a whole food, plant-based diet and lost over 270 pounds combined!
Right now we are celebrating the one year anniversary of the two weeks of potatoes, so we decided to kick off the Q&A sessions with one of our most asked about topics… POTATOES!
Check back for future Q&A sessions covering our personal lives, general diet/weight loss questions and more. Peef might even do his own Q&A session 😉
Q&A: Potato Time
Watch the video above to see us discuss the answers to the following:
Why did you eat two weeks of potatoes?
Why did you only eat PLAIN baked potatoes? Why didn’t you add seasonings or prepare them in different ways?
How many potatoes did you eat per meal/day?
What did you drink during the two weeks? Can I have coffee?
Did you take any supplements?
How did you stay motivated and have the will power to do this for two weeks? Did you have any cravings?
Did you cheat at all during the two weeks? (Peef did!)
Did potatoes creep into your dreams?
How were your energy levels?
How much weight did you lose during those two weeks?
What do you think you achieved from eating potatoes for two weeks? Did it cleanse your palate? Did it jump start your weight loss? Any other benefits?
Do you still eat ONLY potatoes?

I was discussing this 2 week only potatoe intake with my daughter. I am 67 years old and weigh 350. I am a diabetic also, under control there. She mentioned that eating only potatoes may spike me up and I needed to discuss that with you. ALSO, did either of you exercize during that time?
Hello! Thanks for reaching out. We are not experts by any means, so I would actually suggest that you consult with your doctor before doing anything like this. We have had a lot of people say that doing the potato weeks would NOT be good for a diabetic person, so definitely discuss it with your doctor so you can come up with a different plan! Sorry we can’t be of more help… but keep us posted. We have started to incorporate more exercise (mostly really long walks for me), but we did not do any kind of hardcore exercising over the last year while losing weigh.
I’ve read Presto & your videos have been very encouraging too. I’m starting tomorrow. I have a griddle in the middle of my stove top that I can use & I’m so excited I saw your griddled video – mind blown! Went straight to BBB today & bought a couple cast iron presses. Can I cook potatoes on the griddle in the first 2 weeks or so they need to be baked? Keep up the great work – I will be in the state just west following along! Thank you! Laura
Hello Laura! We followed exactly what Penn Jillette did for the first two weeks – so it was mainly just baked potatoes, no hash browns. He said “nothing added, nothing taken away” from the potatoes, so we weren’t “allowed” to do things like hash browns that take out a lot of the water from the potatoes… if that makes sense. During our “Mary’s Mini,” we were able to prepare the potatoes any way we wanted as long as we didn’t use any non-compliant ingredients, so that is when we started making hash browns 🙂
#potato just a personal note….please don’t wear that shirt in videos. My eyes were drawn to your nipples 😯😳 You guys look great keep up the good work. I too have lost over 100 pounds to be healthier. Keeping it off is very difficult. I often think of how unfair it is that if you want to quit smoking you can not have it in your home, or drinking, again don’t need to have it around. But food, you HAVE to have food. You have to go out and buy it, store it and watch commercials bombard you with it. It is impossible to just eliminate it from your mind. Again good luck to you both and may you keep each other on track and successful.
I’ve heard tea and black coffee are fine on the potato diet, but what about bone broth? It seems like it would be ok but I can’t find any definitive answers. Thoughts?
Unfortunately, bone broth would not be allowed – especially since it is not plant-based!
