You’ve made it to the third (and final) installment of the road trip travel vlog! If you haven’t already seen it, check out Part I here to watch us visit Columbus, Pittsburgh & Gettysburg. In Part II, which you can watch here, we spent a few days in Philadelphia. In the final video, we explored Atlantic City, Ocean City and Cape May in New Jersey before making the trek back home to St. Louis, MO.
As a reminder, NONE of this is sponsored. We paid for everything on this trip with our own money and we are giving our honest opinions based on our experience!
Greens & Grains in Galloway, NJ
When I traveled to this area with my mom earlier in the year, I discovered a food hall called The Exchange. It is basically a food court with three or four different restaurants all under the same roof. They share a common seating area, so it was great for when I traveled with my mom. She could get whatever she wanted to eat from one of the other vendors, while I could stick to my plant based diet at Greens & Grains.
On this visit, I decided to get a bed of kale topped with hummus and a chickpea salad. They offer a dressing as well, but I definitely did not need it. I mixed everything together and it was very tasty! I am sure there is some oil in the hummus (and possibly the chickpea salad), but this meal definitely beats a lot of other options out there!
Brian went with a bed of brown rice topped with an eggplant and chickpea ragout with a cashew cream sauce. His was super delicious as well!
Atlantic City, NJ
After lunch, it was on to Atlantic City! The first stop we made was at Playcade Arcade, which is my favorite arcade on the boardwalk. They have a lot of great ticket games, which are just so fun to play.
If you haven’t guessed it, I kind of have an arcade problem π What can I say, I’m just a big kid at heart.
After the arcade, we strolled the boardwalk and walked along the beach by the ocean. The humidity gave me a nice new hairstyle π
After all of that walking, we were ready for some salad! One of my favorite places to eat in Atlantic City is at Chop & Toss Salad Company at the Borgata. It is part of their food court, which is located on the bottom level of the building. You can choose whatever lettuce you want as your base and then pick from a really great selection of veggies. They also offer a whole wheat pita on the side!
Ocean City, NJ
The next morning we decided to check out the Ocean City boardwalk. The first place we went was Jilly’s Arcade. Yes another arcade… are you surprised? This is another one of my favorite places to go and it was fun to finally take Brian here. They have 10 cent skee-ball and a ton of 25 cent pinball machines!
After that, we walked along the boardwalk and beach a bit. We had some really great weather!
Cape May, NJ
Our final stop for the day was Cape May, which is located at the very southern tip of New Jersey. We decided to take a trolley tour of the town, which is full of beautiful Victorian style homes.
This teal colored house with pink accents is my favorite one!
They also have a ton of little shops in Cape May. My absolute favorite is Cape May Peanut Butter Company. They sell a really good organic peanut butter that has only one ingredient: peanuts. They also let you sample all of their varieties of peanut butter in the shop.
For dinner, we went to Mad Batter Restaurant. They have a TON of vegan options on their menu. I’ve been there for lunch before and got a tofu scramble with a ton of veggies. For dinner, the vegan options were definitely more on the “junk food” side, but we were on vacation and decided to splurge a bit.
We started out the meal with an order of their seitan vegan hot “wings,” which Brian particularly enjoyed. We also got a vegan “crab” cake made with hearts of palm and chickpeas. That was super tasty!
For the entree, we split the Vegan Wellington, which was a puff pastry stuffed with eggplant, mushrooms, roasted red peppers and spinach and topped with vegan cheese and a roasted tomato sauce. I mean, what can I say, of course this was delicious!
After dinner we booked it to Sunset Beach to enjoy the sunset.
It was absolutely breathtaking to watch the sun setting over the ocean!
That brought our time in New Jersey to a close and we had a LONG trip home ahead of us.
Driving Home
We had nearly 1,000 miles of driving (about 15 hours) to make it home and two days to do it! We wanted to go through some different states than we did on our way out, so we mapped out a route that took us through Maryland, West Virginia and Kentucky.
It was a beautiful drive and we ended it with another gorgeous sunset.
We had an amazing trip, but we were definitely happy to see the Arch as we crossed the Mississippi back into Missouri!
Thanks for following along on our road trip! We hope you enjoyed it. Be sure to watch the video here and check out our Travel Playlist for more travel related videos.
Looks like a great vacation! Thanks for sharing your travels.
Thank you π
Hi,
We really enjoyed your vacation series. You went to several places we’ve never been but one place we’ve been 4 times (e.g. Cape May). One of the reasons we keep going back is the Vegan choices, and our most favorite restaurant in Cape May is Bella Vida. Very good selections and very reasonable prices. Oh, and they do non-vegan food to, but we can’t speak for them π
Oh, and now that we think about it, Gettysburg was another place we vacationed every Thanksgiving for years with the kids. That however was pre-vegan General Pickett’s Buffet π
Thank you for watching along π We will have to check out Bella Vida next time. I was surprised at the vegan options in Cape May!
