For today’s video we present the first-ever Krocks In The Kitchen challenge! Yes, we are going up against each other in a friendly competition. This was actually my mom’s idea… so thank you mom!

For those of you who don’t know, we follow a whole food plant-based diet. We are usually pretty prepared for most situations, but there will always be times when you don’t have everything planned out. You might be on the road and find yourself struggling to find something to eat. Sometimes the only choice is to stop at a gas station and try your best to find something that is relatively compliant.

We went on a road trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma for my birthday last weekend and we decided to compete in a challenge to see who could find the best whole food plant-based options at a gas station. We picked the closest one to our hotel in Catoosa, which happened to be a QuikTrip.

Honestly, I thought this would be easier than it was. We have done pretty well finding random things to eat at gas stations, but this was tough!

We did set up some rules. We each had to pick three different items. Only one of the items could be fruit, since that is the easiest/most obvious choice you’ll find in a gas station.

Watch the video to see what we chose & vote for the winner!

  1. Paula says:

I vote for Brian… the canned green beans was a little desperate (sorry Jessica!)… ya have to cook canned string beans at least a half day to taste decent – and to have them right out of can – and cold – aauugh. I thought a more ideal (bearable) meal would be Jessica’s fruit bowl, Brian’s pitashios and the sandwich. I enjoyed the video, Jessica and Brian… Paula M / Atlanta, GA

  2. Debi says:

#Jessica for amount of money spent
#Brian for sandwich and apple sauce

  3. Deb says:

Sorry, Jessica, I have to pick Brian. Thanks for all your great videos!!

  4. Diane says:

    Brian for the win!

  5. Glinda Marine says:

    Brian definitely wins!
Sorry Jess, but the green beans groused me out.

  6. Vickie Ledbetter says:

Brian is the winner. It was the sandwich that did it for me. Although, I do love can green beans. I would get the sandwich, green beans & fruit. Keep up the great videos.

  7. Glinda Marine says:

I’ve already voted, but I wanted to add How much I really liked this challenge! The competition & variety of what you 2 picked, I can really relate. When we’re traveling without prepared food. Eating becomes a challenge! I usually lose at it. Thanks for this fresh look on choices!

  8. Christy says:

The nuts were a draw and Jessica definitely won the fruit competition, so then it came down to beans vs. sandwich. Beans are less processed. Jessica wins.

  9. Nan says:

    Brian wow😊

  10. Suzette says:

    Brian…..hands down

  11. Carrie Britten says:

I’m voting for Jessica! Sorry Brian, but if the challenge was to be as close to WFPB as possible, she nailed it. And yes, I would eat green beans from the can 😁

  12. Paula says:

Hmm. I’m not seeing my Vote, so here goes again:
Brian, I like your choices better; sorry Jessica. The green beans weren’t something I could see myself looking forward to driving down the highway and feeling hungry ;>)).
Ideally, this? the Sandwich (Brian), the pitaschios (sp?) (Brian) and the fruit bowl (Jessica). I could muster up some lookin’ forward to that. But, no, no green beans from the can, thank you.
Thought the baby apple sauce was cute. I enjoyed this, Jessica and Brian!!

  13. Joy Strong says:

Sorry Jessica… loved two of your choices …… but the green beans were really not getting the vote …. sodium or no sodium.
Brian definitely wins. I thought the sandwich looked great especially from a gas station.
I live in Thailand. We have a 7-11 on every corner so I’m going to do your gas station challenge. The challenge will definitely take me longer since I’ll have to translate Thai to English.
Great idea. Love your videos. You both are a great motivation for healthy lifestyle WFPB.

  14. Cindi Koller says:

Brian wins!! But you both did amazing!! Your Mom had a GREAT IDEA!! I always lose it on the road unless I take my own food. Good job guys!! Inspiring ..

  15. Sharon says:

Brian wins. That sandwich was the deciding factor for me. I have personally sworn off gas station fruit. Twice this summer I got some pretty funky fruit. Also, grapes and strawberries should definitely be organic. Great job though for both of you.

  16. Pam says:

Brian wins ! Sandwich was a good idea ,not liking the green beans😝 but love that you guys are trying to help people stay plant based while traveling with new info and ideasπŸ‘

  17. Sally says:

Brian wins! But Jessica may good choices for her. She is welcome to enjoy her beans πŸ˜›
