Brussels sprouts are not something I ever thought I would be writing a blog post about. Brian went to the grocery store with me a few weeks ago and he really wanted to pick some up and experiment. I wasn’t expecting much… but I was so wrong! He created what we now call “Brian’s Sweet & Smoky All-Purpose Dressing” and coated the roasted Brussels sprouts with it. The result was absolutely delicious!

If you haven’t checked out the Sweet & Smoky Dressing recipe, you can watch that video here. This dressing can be used in so many different ways, but definitely try it on the Brussels sprouts… just trust me.

You can coat the roasted Brussels sprouts with the dressing or even leave it on the side as a dipping sauce. Either way, this combination is a winner!

So what are Brussels sprouts and why are they called “Brussels” with an “s”? They look like baby cabbages for a good reason! They are part of the same family, but they grow on stalks. And they are called “Brussels” sprouts after the city Brussels (in Belgium), where they were made widely popular.

The dressing ingredients are pretty simple: lemon juice, tahini, Medjool dates, liquid smoke and water. Other than that, you’ll just need some Brussels sprouts and extra lemon juice and you are ready to roast!

We like to roast these in our air fryer. You can find more information on the air fryer we use in the “Featured Products” section below.

You can also bake these in the oven. They turn out great either way! We have included instructions for both methods below.

Check out the video here and get the full recipe below.

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Ingredients

  • – 16oz of Brussels sprouts
  • – 1/4 batch (about 1/4 cup) Brian’s Sweet & Smoky Dressing (recipe here)
  • – 1 Tbsp extra lemon juice

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375ºF. You can also use an air fryer (more info below).
  2. Make the Sweet & Smoky Dressing. You can make a full batch and measure out 1/4 cup or make the “single serving” 1/4 batch of the recipe using a smaller blender/bullet.
  3. Prep the Brussels sprouts by trimming off the bottom of the stem and removing any yellowed or blemished outer leaves. Cut them in half lengthwise through the stem.
  4. Place prepped Brussels sprouts into a large bowl and coat with 1 Tbsp lemon juice.
  5. Lay Brussels sprouts (cut side down) on a baking tray or air fryer basket/tray. If cooking in the oven, line your baking tray with parchment paper or a silicon baking mat.
  6. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes, until bottoms have caramelized. If using an air fryer, cook at 375ºF for 10-15 minutes, rotating/shaking halfway through.
  7. Transfer roasted Brussels sprouts to a large bowl and gently toss to coat with the Sweet & Smoky Dressing. You can also serve with the dressing on the side as a dipping sauce.
  8. Enjoy!

These would make a nice side dish or even an appetizer if you spread them out on a fancy tray with the dressing in the middle as the dipping sauce!

I think I got this from Chef AJ

    2TBS Balsamic Vinger
    2TBS Lemon Juice
    1 LB Brussels Sprouts
    (I slice them in half)

  3. Pat says:

Try reducing balsamic vinegar and use as a sauce for the roasted sprouts. That’s a family favorite of ours.

What do you clean your baking tray with? I bought the Ninji air fryer made this recipe, but the tray does not come clean. Only put lemon juice on sprouts, did not spray pan with anything, but does not come clean. Enjoy your you tube. Thanks
