We were out of town and missed the very first St. Louis VegFest in 2018, so we were super excited to check it out this year! The festival is held at the World’s Fair Pavilion in Forest Park and features everything vegan – from food vendors to products, a speaker series and more. It was a busy day for us, so our time at the festival was limited, but we managed to try a bunch of great food and we thought we’d take you along.

If you’ve been following us, you might know that we have lost 290+ pounds combined by switching to a whole food, plant-based diet back in June 2018. We try to avoid most “vegan junk food” on our diet, but sometimes we like to indulge a bit. We find that having fun days like this actually helps us stay on track in the long run and gives us inspiration for new recipes to try at home!

When we first walked in to the festival, we were met with a wall of apples! One of the sponsors was giving them away for free, so Brian and Peef both grabbed one ๐Ÿ˜‰

The festival featured about 70 different booths. It was quite packed when we arrived around noon, but most of the lines seemed to move pretty quickly.

They also had yoga classes going on throughout the day. We were very lucky to have gorgeous weather and great views.

I should take a second to note – none of this is sponsored. The event is free to attend and we paid for everything you see here with our own money. ๐Ÿ™‚

One of the vendors I wanted to check out was Thrive Book. They put together a coupon book featuring restaurants all around St. Louis with vegan menu options. We don’t eat out that often, but I thought this would be a nice way to check out some new places we haven’t heard of before!

The book was $20, so hopefully we will get our money back in savings after using a few of the coupons.

Up next, we were ready to start trying out some food! Small Batch is a local vegetarian restaurant that we have been wanting to try out, so we got an order of their samosas with curry sauce.

Yes, we started out with something fried in oil. Of course they were really tasty, but not exactly in line with our diet. OOPS ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

After that, we wanted something a bit healthier and we found another local vegetarian restaurant called Frida’s. They are actually known for featuring oil-free options on their menu, so we were anxious to see what they had!

We ended up getting their chickpea tuna salad and a couple of black bean street tacos. Both were really tasty! I especially enjoyed the chickpea tuna salad. That is definitely something we need to work on a recipe for at home.

I couldn’t resist the pizza. Pizza Head is yet another local vegetarian restaurant and honestly, they have some of the best vegan pizza I’ve ever had.

We went with a slice of their vegan pepperoni pizza. The pizza they were selling at the event was a bit different than the pizza we are used to getting at their location, but it was SUPER yummy.

The cheese on their normal pizza is nut based and coats the entire slice, but this was more of a margherita style slice.

What can I say, I love PIZZA! ๐Ÿ™‚ We controlled ourselves a bit and shared one slice.

Our final savory selection was a spring roll bowl. We aren’t sure the name of the vendor we got this one from, but Brian really enjoyed it.

He is determined to make an oil-free version of this at home someday.

Louisville Vegan Jerky is one of our favorite vegan junk food indulgences. Even though we can never agree on the pronunciation of Louisville, we both agree their jerky is super good. This is pretty darn high in sodium and has some oil, but we like to have this as a treat. They were on site sampling, so we bought a few bags to take home.

I wasn’t going to leave without something sweet… and I had my eye on ice cream!

We have seen Clementine’s Creamery at a few other local events, but they normally only have one or two vegan options. I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to sample it since they were featuring exclusively vegan flavors.

I got a scoop of vanilla for Brian and a scoop of chocolate for me. It was so tasty. Not healthy at all, but sooo good!

Even though we tried a bunch of great food, our favorite part of the day was running into so many of you! We had several people come up to us throughout the day and tell us they love watching our videos. It means a lot to hear from each and every one of you! Thanks for joining us on this crazy journey โค๏ธ

Hi, you inspire us all the time! You give us great ideas and I think the best part is that you do this together! We live in Kansas City and would live to come meet you guys sometime! You guys are part of our weekly routine! We are leaving on November 17th to go to True North Health Center in Santa Rosa, CA to do a 21 day water fast to speed up our healing process. Weโ€™re excited about the results! But when we get back people like you guys will continue to help us stay on the right track! Loved your VegFest video! It makes us want to go next year!
Thanks again so much for inspiring so many people!

    • Hello! Keep us posted on how that goes! Thank you for the kind words. I think there is a veg fest in Kansas City too, I can’t remember when it was this year. We’ve never been, but do make our way to KC for concerts a few times a year ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hi, started with your videos about a month ago. This is my first visit to the blog. I love all the pics and silly faces, fun that you have on your “adventure” that’s for you Brian, you both are a great inspiration.

I started out with the How Not to Die Recipe videos since I have the cookbook and thought it wise to have someone else try the recipes first… Hahaha… Thanks Jessica.
