We recently spent two weeks in England and had the chance to try out a TON of really delicious vegan food. It is so much easier to find vegan options (and ENTIRE vegan restaurants) than we are used to back home in St. Louis, Missouri.

We thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite meals in case you decide to visit England or are just looking for inspiration for your own dishes at home.

This list is chronological order of where we went on our trip, starting out in London, then heading to Nottingham and Leeds, and back to London. We hope you enjoy it and please be sure to watch the video to hear us talk about all of the delicious food!

LEON

Website: leon.co
Location We Visited: Unit 1A, 6 Pancras Square N1C 4AG

LEON is a casual food chain with locations all over the UK. We checked them out at breakfast time and found they had several vegan options that are pretty close to what we normally eat on our whole food, plant-based diet! Their website is great because you can easily filter to see what items are vegan or can be easily made vegan with minor adaptations.

Brian Ate: Porridge with banana & cinnamon (swap in cashew milk)

Jessica Ate: “Toast of the Town” (wholemeal toast with cinnamon and date butter) + a banana

M&S (Marks & Spencer)

Website: marksandspencer.com
Location We Visited: St. Pancras Station

Marks & Spencer, known as M&S, is a British retailer with a TON of locations. Some of their locations have a full store with clothing and more, but there are a bunch of smaller versions that only stock food products. We fell in love with their “Plant Kitchen” line of pre-prepared foods because they were quick & easy to pick up on the way to the train.

We Shared:
Carrot batons with hummus
Carrot bites with cannellini bean dip
3 Bean Salad with mint vinaigrette
Nutty Super Wholefood Salad
Edamame & Black Rice Salad

Hand & Heart

Website: thehandandheart.co.uk
Location: 65-67 Derby Rd, Nottingham NG1 5BA, United Kingdom

This nice cozy pub is located in a cave. Yes, a CAVE! If that wasn’t cool enough, they cater to vegans with several options on their menu. These were some seriously delicious meals and this dinner remained one of our favourites of the entire trip!

Brian Ate:
Beetroot & leek appetizer
Fake & ale pie (with cashews, soya, chestnut mushrooms and a side of chips)

Jessica Ate:
Stuffed squash appetizer
Lentil & root vegetable stuffed butternut squash

Humpit: The Hummus & Pita Bar

Website: humpit-hummus.com
Location We Visited: Call Ln, Leeds LS1 7BR, United Kingdom

Humpit has several locations across England. The one we visited was in Leeds at the Corn Exchange. I believe the entire menu is vegan. It was a nice, quick stop for delicious food!

We Shared:
Humpit Salad (with hummus & falafel)
Shakshuka (warm tomato base with aubergine, fava beans, tahina & pita)

Bundobust

Website: bundobust.com
Location We Visited: 6 Mill Hill, Leeds LS1 5DQ, United Kingdom

Bundobust has locations in Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool. They serve Indian street food and craft beer. We don’t drink, but the food was amazing. They had a great vegan sampler for two that we share and we ate every bite 🙂

We Shared: Vegan Combo for 2 (Okra Fries, Bhajis, Bhel Puri, Raghda Pethis & Massala Dosa)

Eat Your Greens

Website: eatyourgreensleeds.co.uk
Location: 42 New York St, Leeds LS2 7DY, United Kingdom

We were on the search for a vegan brunch in Leeds, and Eat Your Greens came highly recommended. My favorite part was the fact that their menu says “all items are vegan unless stated.” There was definitely a lot more oil in this meal than we are used to, but it was worth it!

Brian Ate:
Breakfast Buttie (Burmese fried tofu with house brown sauce & greens)
Toffee Pancakes (Stacked drop scones, sticky toffee sauce & toasted flax seed)

Jessica Ate:
EYG Breakfast (Spiced beans, fried tofu, crispy potatoes, flash-fried greens, sourdough toast & house brown sauce)

Mildreds

Website: mildreds.co.uk
Location We Visited: 45 Lexington St, Soho, London W1F 9AN, United Kingdom

Once again, a majority of their menu is vegan with a few exceptions. While we were visiting, they were about to celebrate Veganuary by making their entire menu vegan for the month of January.

Appetizer: Hazelnut dukkah (warm heirloom carrots, orange maple dressing, whipped tahini, soft herbs, pomegranate)

Jessica Ate: Soul bowl (carrot goji berry quinoa, baby kale, shiitake, avocado, cashew cheese, toasted seeds)

Brian Ate: Parsnip apple sausages (borlotti bean, parsnip and apple sausages, mustard mash, cider jus, caramelised apple)

Dessert: Gingerbread sticky toffee (spiced toffee sauce, creme angais)

Sagar

Website: sagarveg.co.uk
Location We Visited: 17 Percy St, Bloomsbury, London W1T 1DU, United Kingdom

A few years ago, I would have never put a South Indian restaurant on my list of places to go in London. But my taste buds have changed and I am much more adventurous these days 🙂 That being said – this was absolutely one of our favorite meals of the trip. I am so glad we went with the vegan Thali, which allowed us to sample bunch of different things on the menu!

We Shared: Vegan Thali

Redemption

Website: redemptionbar.co.uk
Location We Visited: 2 Neal’s Yard, London WC2H 9AT, United Kingdom

When you walk in, you are greeted with their daily deli selection. You can stop in for a quick bite to-go or head farther into the restaurant for seating. The service was really slow, but the food was good enough to make up for it. Next time, we would probably just grab food from the deli selection and take it to-go!

We Shared: Roasted Roots Winter Caesar (British curly kale with roasted butternut squash, roasted heritage beetroot, a zesty sunflower seed Caesar dressing, black douce olives and macadamia)

Brian Ate: Redemption Burger (shitake mushroom, hemp seeds, quinoa, roasted chestnuts and toasted walnuts in a warm charcoal brioche with caramelised red onion marmalade, kimchi super slaw & rosemary roasted potatoes)

Jessica Ate: Daily Buddha Bowl (turmeric cauliflower with tahini & pomegranate, kale salad, quinoa salad, roasted potatoes)

Dessert: Banoffee pie (chewy oaty base, layer of chocolate filled with a sticky medjool date caramel, banana and coconut cream)

Farmacy

Website: farmacylondon.com
Location: 74-76 Westbourne Grove, London W2 5SH, United Kingdom

This is a place that you definitely want to call in advance and get a reservation. It is a higher end (aka – expensive) restaurant that came up frequently in my searches for the best vegan food in London. I think my favorite part was the appetizer and dessert, but everything was delicious and it was a great “date night” for us.

Appetizer: Mezze For Two To Share (hummus, cauliflower popcorn, kale & tomato tapenade, cranberry chutney & homemade flatbread)

Brian Ate:
Farmacy Lasagne (mushroom, courgette & pepper cooked in a rich tomato sauce & layered between green lentil lasagne sheets)
Roasted Squash with Sage

Jessica Ate: Got No Beef Burger (mushroom, walnut & beetroot burger, tomato, lettuce, Farmacy burger sauce, goji berry ketchup & beetroot pickled onions served with sweet potato fries)

Dessert:
Nice Cream Brownie Sundae (Farmacy brownie served with vanilla nice cream, seasonal fruits, raw cacao & housemade maca caramel)
Sticky Toffee Pudding (steamed date pudding served with a caramel sauce & vanilla nice cream)

Vantra Eden

Website: vantra.co.uk
Location: 79a Tottenham Court Rd, Bloomsbury, London W1T 4TD, United Kingdom

We saved the best for last… literally! It was our final day in London and we FINALLY made it to Vantra Eden, which was really close to the hotel we stayed at. Walking up, I probably looked like a crazy kid in a candy shop, because I was so delighted to see that not only is everything vegan, but is it also OIL FREE! And free of refined sugars! It was a great find and we cannot recommend this place enough to anyone following a whole food, plant-based diet… or just ANYONE in general really 🙂

At Vantra Eden, you pick a box, fill it up and then pay a set price based on the size of the box. We decided to fill two boxes with their hot selections and one with cold salads. The hot selections were all incredibly flavorful and Brian is trying to figure out how to replicate some of these dishes at home!

We Shared:
Vegan Stroganoff w/ Mushrooms, Greens & Sweet Potato Stew, Chickpea Curry, Steamed Tofu & Seaweed Quiche, Beans + MORE!

Vantra Loungevity

Website: vantra.co.uk
Location We Visited: 5 Wardour St, London W1D 6PD, United Kingdom

Vantra Eden was SO good that we decided we had to try out their other restaurant, Vantra Loungevity. Unfortunately it was our last day in London, but that didn’t stop us… we went to both locations in the same day! Loungevity had a lot of the same selections as Vantra Eden, with a few extras like a pulled jack-fruit dish that was simply amazing.

During the day, they offer the same “fill a box” for a fixed price concept as Eden does. At night, you fill a plate and pay by weight. Just trust us – you’ll want to check this one out 🙂

There were so many more places we wanted to try but didn’t have time for! I couldn’t believe how many options there were, especially in London. We can’t wait to go back and try more, so comment below if you have any other suggestions.

We were SO inspired by the food and Brian has been super creative since we got back. Let us know if there are any dishes you want to see him replicate at home.

Be sure to check out the video to see us talk about all of the restaurants!

Please don’t tell me you went all the way to England and didn’t have a proper English tea!

Loved your YouTube post. The UK has certainly expanded food choices since I lived there! Indian places were the most reliable vegetarian and vegan options back then. I was wondering if you have ever watched Harshdeep Swamni on YouTube. He makes oil free WFPB Indian recipes that I think you would enjoy. Also check out Plantiful Kiki on YouTube for her oil free naan bread recipe. Maybe you’ll be able to replicate some of those delicious dishes you ate in England.

Just been invited to go to London in September. Thanks for this post.
