One of the questions we’ve been asked a lot since we started sharing our story is: “How did you gain all of that weight in the first place?” Well, the simple answer is – we ate a LOT of food. People overeat for a number of reasons, and sometimes it’s hard to really understand why you’re even doing it. For me, I am definitely an “emotional eater.” I tend to binge eat to get a temporary relief from my feelings.

Brian has always said that he isn’t an emotional eater, and I agree with that statement. In fact, when he gets angry, sad, depressed, etc… he doesn’t want to eat at all. It kind of drives me mad! I can’t tell you how many times we’ve had an argument right before dinner – I’ll go off and take my food to bed and eat while he sits on the couch in silence not eating. Yes, believe it or not, we do argue 😉

So how did Brian get to be over 500 pounds at his highest weight? In today’s video, we took the cameras outside the kitchen to Brian’s hometown of Collinsville, Illinois. He took over and shared his story in the first part of a series called “My Life At 500+ Pounds.” Watch the video to get a look back at his childhood and hear him discuss the history of his weight gain.

    Hi Jessica & Brian,
    Just wanted to say I love you guys! I’m not tech-savvy so not on Facebook, Twitter, etc. but wanted to let you know how much your YouTube channel has changed my life. I was miserable at the beginning of 2019 with a list of 14 health issues besides being about 50 lbs overweight. I wanted to try a WFPB lifestyle, but had a hard time getting started. Sometime last spring I had been watching videos of magicians when Penn Jillette’s video of his potato diet came up on my “recommended” list. After that, one of yours came up and I’ve been watching you ever since. (Of course I have subscribed!! And bookmarked your website.) I have printed out most of your recipes and have my own “Krocks in the Kitchen Kookbook” that I made. I’ve lost 23 lbs so far, but the best thing is that most of those 14 health issues have disappeared or gotten significantly better, including blood pressure, cholesterol, GERD, and autoimmune stuff. Keep up the great work! You are so WONDERFUL!!!
