After nearly nine months of no travel, we decided to take a road trip to Huntsville, Alabama to visit a very special friend! And of course, we took you along with us so you can see what we ate, what we did and more.

Don’t worry… we took extra precautions to stay safe (and keep others safe) during these crazy times.

The drive down to Huntsville takes about 6 1/2 hours from St. Louis if you drive through Nashville, but we decided to take our time and go through some smaller towns instead. The weather was quite lovely!

We spent most of the drive listening to Science & Saucery… have you guessed who our special guest is yet? 🤔

We pulled in to Rocket City just after dark and were greeted by the glowing site of the Saturn V replica outside the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

Okay, we’ve made you wait long enough. Our special guest was, of course, none other than the one and only… Ray Cronise! Otherwise known (lovingly) as “CrayRay,” he is co-author of The Healthspan Solution, the mastermind behind Penn Jillette’s weight loss, the host of Science & Saucery, and you know… a former NASA scientist!

No big deal.

The next day, we met up with CrayRay and our very first stop was the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. You didn’t think Brian was going to Huntsville without getting a personal tour of the rocket center from Ray did you? 😁

We had an absolute BLAST (pun intended) walking all around the museum with Ray, while he told us SO much cool stuff. It was really fun to see Brian there in his element. He went to space camp at the center back in 1997, and you could tell he was just beaming with memories of his time there. They even gave him a “Space Camp Alumni” button. So cute!

After all of that science 🤓, we were ready for some food! Ray took us to one of his favorite Mexican joints, Rosie’s Cantina.

He ordered for the table, and we ended up with some very tasty veggie fajitas. Ray specifically asked them to steam the veggies with no oil… and there were even potatoes in the mix. 😃 🥔

After several hours of conversation, we called it a night and got rested up for a long day of filming ahead!

Welcome to Krocks In… CrayRay’s Kitchen! The next day, we filmed a few videos for you guys. Those will be coming out very soon, and we can’t wait for you to see them.

CrayRay kept us very well fed with some of the most delicious food we’ve ever had… here’s a little sneak peek:

We had a really productive “work” day, so on our third and final day with Ray, we decided to have a bit more fun. We got in Ray’s car and drove to the small city of Lynchburg, Tennessee.

Our first stop was at the Bar-B-Que Caboose Cafe. Yes, Ray took us to a BBQ joint. 😂

There we enjoyed some red beans and rice and these lovely plain baked potatoes with some of their famous BBQ sauce on top!

We even got to meet the owner Ken! He and Ray go way back.

Yes, we ate potatoes with CrayRay.

After lunch, we walked down the street to the Jack Daniel’s Distillery for a tour and tasting. Their property is set in the most beautiful, scenic location.

Even CrayRay wanted a selfie with Peef!

Now, you guys might remember that I don’t drink at all. I’ve had a total of maybe 10-15 alcoholic beverages in my entire life. So the tasting portion of the tour was definitely interesting for me!

The good news is, the five samples we had barely totaled up to one full shot. My favorite was one of the most expensive… Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select!

As the day came to a close, Ray took us to see his property in Tennessee where his son Danner Cronise is renovating this old abandoned shed into an amazing tiny house! Check out Danner’s YouTube channel to follow along with the progress.

The photo above was taken in the location where the kitchen will be installed! We can’t wait to get back there and cook with Ray and family.

And that was a wrap on this trip. We can’t wait to go back to Rocket City (or “Krocket City” as Ray likes to call it). Special thanks to him for being our tour guide, personal chef, driver and friend on this grand adventure!
