If you watched our grocery haul video earlier this week, you might remember that I picked up a fresh package of French green beans at Aldi. Even though Brian hates canned green beans, he loves cooking up the fresh ones in a skillet. We needed a side dish to go with our stuffed mushrooms the other night, so he put together this recipe and I knew we had to share it!

If you are missing that crunch in your diet, this recipe is for you. Instead of snacking on chips or pretzels, try out these tasty glazed green beans!

For this recipe, you’ll need green beans (of course), along with low sodium soy sauce, lime juice, maple syrup, onion & garlic powder, cayenne, dates and liquid smoke.

We prefer to use the French-style green beans… you know the long, skinny ones!

After you give the green beans a quick rinse, you’ll need a nice large non-stick skillet to cook them in. Brian likes to use his “Granitestone Diamond” pan. This process takes about 10-15 minutes, and you’ll need to watch them closely and keep them moving. See the recipe below or watch the video for more on Brian’s technique!

Once they are charred a bit, it’s as simple as adding your “glaze” and Brian’s secret ingredient… dates! The dates add such a nice pop of sweetness and compliment the glazed beans perfectly.

Recipe: Tasty Glazed Green Beans

by Krocks In The Kitchen

Ingredients

  • – 1 x 16oz package French green beans (fresh)
  • – 1 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • – 1 Tbsp lime juice
  • – 1/4 to 1/2 tsp maple syrup
  • – 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • – 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • – Dash of Cayenne pepper
  • – 2 Tbsp chopped dates (approx. 2 fresh dates)
  • – Few dashes of liquid smoke

Directions

  1. Mix soy sauce, lime juice, maple syrup, garlic powder, onion powder, and Cayenne in a bowl and set aside.
  2. Mix chopped dates and liquid smoke together in a separate bowl and set aside.
  3. Add green beans to a large non-stick skillet on medium-high heat. Toss and stir very frequently until charing occurs and the green beans start to soften. This process will take about 10-15 minutes. Keep a close eye on them!
  4. Turn off the heat. Add in the dates and toss for a few seconds.
  5. Add the sauce, toss and stir.
  6. OPTIONAL: Add a splash of water to deglaze the pan.
  7. Serve immediately.

We like to split the entire pound of green beans between the two of us for a nice, tasty side dish!

In fact, right after we filmed the video, we ate all of these right off the tray. 😂

They paired very nicely with our stuffed mushrooms as well!

They are even Oliver approved! Well… we didn’t actually let him try any. 😬

We hope you enjoy this video. Please tag us on social media if you make these!

Made these green beans for dinner with brown rice. They are delicious!! Thanks for another fabulous recipe.

Like you, I saw a package of fresh green beans in my local grocery store – on sale – and wanted to do something with them.

This simple and tasty recipe gets high marks from me!

I swapped out the lime juice with a premium dark balsamic vinegar for the acid, which resulted in a really nice sticky coating for them. I left out the liquid smoke because I am not a fan, and just warmed up the dates with the green beans instead.

Bottom line – a terrifically easy and tasty dish!

Thank you for all that you do. Love your YouTube channel and the thought and detail you put into your written recipes.

    Greetings from Toronto!
