It’s time for another episode of the Lisa & Jessica Show! This week we started out with our “Recipe Swap Club” and then talked about “cheat” meals and some of the challenges Lisa has been facing. Recipe Modifications:
– For the Lasagna Stew, since we don’t normally eat a lot of pasta, in the future I will double all of the ingredients EXCEPT the lasagna noodles. You could also just make a normal batch and use half the amount of lasagna noodles, but you know I love making a GIANT batch of things. I wasn’t sure if half the amount of noodles would be enough, but after eating it, I think it would work out just fine!
– For the Oil-Free Banana Bread Granola, I made a half batch and also used half the amount of walnuts, tahini and maple syrup.

OTHER:
Pizza Crust – We use the Sprouted Grain Ultra Thin Pizza Crusts by ActivFit. I have not seen the exact ones we buy available for purchase online. The ones we buy at Dierbergs (a local grocery store chain) appear to be vegan, but I have seen other versions of the same crust online that contain milk, so be sure to check the labels!

“Cheats” & Treats

January 16th was a special day for Brian and I. We celebrated 14 years since the day we first met in person, so I planned a little surprise day to celebrate. We don’t actually call them “cheat” days or meals; instead this was designated as a “rare and appropriate” for us. You can read more about “rare and appropriate” in the book The Healthspan Solution. I also talked about it on this week’s video.

Our friend Chef Chris Bertke was hosting an all vegan Taco Bell pop-up event and we HAD to check it out. It was amazing! We also went out to the gazebo where we first met in person 14 years ago. We took a trip back to the record store and restaurant we went to on that day as well.

I learned a lot from this little “rare and appropriate” excursion, and the next day we were happy to go right back on our whole food, plant-based diet. Watch the video to see Lisa and I discuss what we both learned from the “cheats and treats” we enjoyed this week.

    It was the first recipe I made, right after watching their movie, and I’ve been plant based ever since; August 10, 2012. ♥
    I thought I would try it for 2 weeks, but never looked back.
    It is still my favorite ‘go to” recipe. Everyone loves it. I hope you will also. I’ve tweaked it a little over the years, you might too. But, like you, I always follow the recipe the first time and then make it my own! ♥♥♥
