It’s no secret that I love Aldi! When we first switched to eating a whole food, plant-based diet, I honestly thought I’d have to stop shopping there in favor of places like Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods, but I soon realized they have TONS of options. I thought it would be fun to put together a list of our favorite products to buy there — all vegan / plant-based of course!

This post is NOT sponsored or endorsed by Aldi in any way. We purchased all of the products with our own money. These are all products we use on a regular basis.

The prices below are based on what I paid at our local store in Saint Louis, Missouri in June 2020. I know prices can vary from store to store.

#10: Elevation “Pure & Simple” Bars

$3.99 for a box of 5

These are the Aldi version of Lärabars and they come in two flavors: Apple Pie & Peanut Butter Cookie Bar. I usually get Lärabars for about $5 for a box of five, so these are slightly cheaper.

I don’t really recommend keeping these on hand regularly during weight loss, just because they are so calorie dense and eating a piece of fruit or something might be a better option. However, they are really good for travel or while you are “on the go” and need a quick bite to eat. And they are super tasty!

#9: “Simply Nature” Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

$4.15 for a 1 liter bottle

Aldi has a really affordable apple cider vinegar with the “mother.” I used to buy the Bragg’s version, which I would find for anywhere from $6 to $7 a bottle at various stores. This is good to keep on hand for use in recipes or even as part of a quick salad dressing.

#8: “Millville” Old Fashioned Rolled Oats

$2.65 for a 2lb 10oz canister

How can you go wrong with a giant container of old fashioned rolled oats? I’ve seen these as low as $1.99 at Aldi. We go through phases where we use a LOT of oats to make oatmeal for breakfast or various other recipes, so I always like to keep them on hand!

#7: “Friendly Farms” Almond Milk

$1.79 for a half gallon

We also go through a lot of almond milk. We use it in a ton of recipes like my super chocolatey nice cream shakes and our weird green soup. I love the fact that Aldi has both a vanilla and original flavor unsweetened almond milk for such a great price. At just 30 calories per cup, this is a great swap for regular milk.

#6: “Season’s Choice” Frozen Steamed California Vegetable Medley

95 cents for a 12 ounce bag

This blend of broccoli, cauliflower & carrots comes in a “steamable” bag, so you can have veggies ready in about 5 minutes. We use this to help bulk up our meals. I have yet to find any other frozen veggies in steamer bags for so cheap. I like to keep a few of these in the freezer at work as a back up. They also have steamer bags of just broccoli for just 89 cents at our local Aldi!

#5: “Stonemill” Basic Spices & “Simply Nature” Organic Spices

Starting at 95 cents per bottle

Aldi has a great selection of basic spices like onion powder, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, parsley, oregano, Italian seasoning, etc. for just 95 cents per bottle, which you can’t really beat! They also have a line of “Simply Nature” organic spices for $1.95. They even have the trendy “Everything Bagel Seasoning” for around $2 as well.

#4: “Stonemill” Salt Free Seasoning Blends

$2.49 per bottle

These are the Aldi version of Mrs. Dash, which I’ve seen in stores for around $3.99 each. They always have original, garlic & herb, lemon pepper and my favorite — the table blend — in stock. Sometimes they even have extra varieties like “chicken grilling” or “southwest chipotle” as part of their “Special Buy” section.

We love to use these on our tahini roasted veggies, on top of salads, or as a quick seasoning for a bag of frozen veggies.

#3: Fresh Produce

Aldi has a growing produce section stocked with peppers, celery, carrots, red onions, strawberries, oranges, watermelons, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, etc. Prices do vary but they usually have some of the best prices I find anywhere. The only downside is that availability can be random, so I usually go to Aldi first so I know if I need to pick up something elsewhere.

Their bananas are usually around 43 cents per pound and I always find the GREENEST bananas there. I love this because I can buy them and know we will have nice, ripe bananas ready for us at the end of the week.

#2: “Little Salad Bar” Sweet Butter Lettuce

$1.99 per 6oz bag

We eat SO much salad, and I love having bags of pre-washed lettuce on hand. This butter lettuce is our favorite hands down. It tastes better than ANY other butter lettuce I have found. It stays really crunchy and fresh longer than any other bagged lettuce we have bought.

#1: “Season’s Choice” Riced Cauliflower

$1.89 for a 12oz bag

Our number one spot goes to Brian’s favorite… frozen riced cauliflower! These are “steamable” bags, so you can just throw them in the microwave for 5-6 minutes, and you have the base for a tasty meal. Brian likes to pair them with other veggies, beans, etc. and add in some spices. He also mixes in some brown rice to bulk it up a bit sometimes.

These have ONE ingredient — just cauliflower — and no salt added!

Bonus #1: “Boulder” Flex Extra Strong Trash Bags

$4.39 for a box of 40

Bonus item time! I absolutely love the trash bags from Aldi. Not all trash bags are created equal, and these are both affordable and functional. I actually prefer the “Fresh” scent but had to get “Lavender” this time.

Bonus #2: Special Buys

If you’ve ever been to Aldi, you know that in addition to food, the store usually has a couple of magical aisles full of “Special Buys.” New items get rotated in every week or so, and the old items are only available while supplies last. So if you see something you like, don’t expect to see it next time you are there shopping!

We have gathered quite the collection of kitchen items from the “Special Buy” section over the years – from spatulas and ladles to potato shaped peelers and corn on the cob holders. They also have random stuff like clothing, outdoor gardening equipment, toys… you name it.

I LOVE Aldi too! We don’t have a Trader Joes. It makes this way of eating super affordable!

  3. Connie says:

I love Aldi now too. I recently discovered the Earth Grown Veggie Burgers, made with 11 vegetables. Delicious! I hope these are a regular item they carry. Would be great if you could come up with a recipe, although with 11 vegetables, it might be cheaper and easier to just buy them. Thanks!

Hi guys. I wanted to post another great buy from Aldi’s. My daughter eats bags of their Kale. She swears that it has been instrumental in clearing up her complexion, and will eat at least one to two salads per day. I will encourage her to add the Butter lettuce you mentioned above to incorporate into her daily eating routine.

👋🏼 Hi guys, do you all have a salad shredder/chopper/cutter from Aldi’s? I’m looking for one. Love your content!

I like the breakfast brekki’s. The mixed berries is the one I like but hubby likes the banana chocolate chip. GF and a snack I can keep in my draw at work.
