The holiday season is almost here! We get asked a lot about what we eat for the holidays or how we handle situations like family gatherings. Honestly, we usually just go with the flow, try not to go TOO crazy, and eat a meal or two of our old holiday favorites. BUT we also enjoy trying to create new whole food, plant-based (WFPB) favorites! For today’s video, we picked out some recipes from our catalog that would be great for the holidays – and maybe even fool your non plant-based friends.

Before we get started – it’s important to note that when you are serving WFPB dishes to your friends and family, you have to keep in mind that they are probably not used to eating this way. You may have to add a bit of salt to your dishes or at least offer salt on the side. After all, it probably took your own taste buds a while to adjust to your new way of eating, and it will for them too!

Don’t get discouraged if people don’t seem to enjoy your food. Not everyone is going to love every single recipe – but hopefully you can show them that your way of eating can be just as flavorful as the “Standard American Diet.”

Without further ado, let’s get to the countdown!

Squash Casserole

We’re starting out with two recipes that were inspired by Brian’s mom. Up first is our version of my favorite casserole she makes. The original recipe uses cream of chicken soup and sour cream combined with zucchini and yellow squash. It also includes stuffing and a fair amount of butter.

For our WFPB version of this squash casserole, we used silken tofu and lentils to create a creamy soup substitute and topped it with some Ezekiel bread for that stuffing texture I love so much.

This one is definitely a labor of love, but it is my favorite to make for the holidays!

Brian’s “Mom-Inspired” Italian Stuffed Mushrooms

Up next is another recipe inspired by Brian’s mom. She makes these amazing mushrooms that are stuffed with a cream cheese and sausage mixture.

We replaced the cream cheese with a mixture of silken tofu and cashews and the meat with diced mushrooms and shallots. The spice blend really makes this one stand out! The filling sets up really nicely in the fridge before you stuff your mushroom caps and bake them. I love the fact that you can prepare the filling in advance, making this an easy appetizer to put together for your holiday party.

Tasty Glazed Green Beans

It’s no secret that I love my green beans! I’ve traded my green bean casserole for these tasty glazed green beans. Brian sautés French green beans and adds dates for an extra pop.

You could also make a green bean casserole using the creamy soup substitute from our squash casserole recipe!

Sweet & Smoky Corn

For me, the holidays are all about the side dishes. This sweet & smoky corn is an easy way to elevate a frozen bag of corn into a side dish your family will devour!

Once again, Brian used dates to add an extra special twist to this side dish.

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

I feel like people either LOVE or HATE Brussels sprouts. I was somewhere in the middle until Brian came up with this recipe. He coats them in his sweet & smoky dressing and then air fries them. You can also bake these. Hopefully someone will leave your party with a new found love of Brussels sprouts!

Vegan Mashed Potatoes

What is a holiday meal without mashed potatoes? We traded the normal milk and butter version for these guilt-free potatoes!

Brian developed this recipe while we were in the middle of a Mary’s Mini, and this has been our go-to ever since. The “secret” ingredient of mustard is a MUST!

Delicata Squash & Lentil Salad

This dish screams FALL! We were inspired to create his after trying a dish at a market in Columbus, Ohio, and it has been one of our favorites ever since. Not only is is beautiful with pops of color, but your house will smell SO delicious as the squash bakes in that fall spice blend.

I love this one because it is a break from the traditional dishes you probably see at your holiday gatherings. It travels well and tastes great when cold!

Chocolate Peanut Butter “Cookie” Bites

I am ALL about the desserts and peanut blossoms used to be my favorite. Although I am pretty sure it is impossible to recreate the texture of this holiday treat in WFPB form, these are still one of my favorites to whip up during the holidays.

I have so many memories of baking cookies with my mom, and this recipe allows me to still get that same joy but without the guilt! You can’t beat the combination of peanut butter and chocolate.
